55 years ago I was drafted into the US Army, not the Detroit Tigers my boyhood dream. Best thing that ever happened to me, I remember my Jr High School gym teacher, Fran Reidy, telling me I ran in one spot too long. Photo below was as an acting Corporal, but still getting paid as a Private, working under a basic drill Sergeant, pushing 3 cycles of basic training through at Ft Jackson SC. My clearance for Officer Candidate School wasn't finalized and those 6 months prepped me for OCS, then flight school in Texas and Alabama finishing up with the test pilot program in Virginia.  I am so grateful to be given the opportunities to serve my country, meet my wife Iris in Germany and be part of our wonderful country.
